About Us

Community Radio Mattoli (90.4 FM) is an undertaking of Wayanad Social Service Society [WSSS; Reg.No.94/1974] in Kerala State. Launched on June 1st, 2009, it has 16 hours of broadcasting now, from 6am. to 10pm. Our radio signals cover 85% of Wayand District, having a population of 8,16,558 lakhs. Around 2.5 lakhs people listen Mattoli at a given point of time, especially in the morning hours. Management of Mattoli vests with a committee consisting of people representing different section of society

Administration and Management:

The License holder of Radio Mattoli is Wayanad Social       Service Society (WSSS) (Reg. No.94/1974), an NGO with 36 years of experience in developmental interventions in Wayanad District. The day to day management is carried out by a Managing Committee consisting of representatives from different sections of the community. We have Content Advisory Committees, Voice Bank and Community Volunteers. management

Departments:

Activities in Radio Mattoli are coordinated by different departments like Administration; Research and Development (R&D); Programs making; Recording/Editing and Broadcasting. management

Mattoli School Clubs:

In collaboration with Education Department of Wayanad District, we have started forming radio Mattoli Clubs in schools. In 91schools out of 288, Clubs are now formed. Members of these Clubs are given opportunity to broadcast their programs over Mattoli. management

Source of finance:

Revenue of Radio Mattoli comes from the limited commercial spots permitted by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, as well as project funds from

  • NABARD.
  • Coffee Board.
  • Kerala State Agricultural Department.

Capital and Sustenance:

Capital investment of CRS Mattoli was approximately Rs.50 lakhs. Sustenance of the service is through project funds from NABARD , Agricultural Technology Management Agency , Indian Coffee Board , Kerala State Council for Science Technology and Environment and National Human Rights Commission . Wayanad being the most backward district in Kerala with no industries and big business, we succeeded in raising only nominal commercial revenue. We look forward to advertisements from DAVP and Public Relations Department of Kerala State for sustainability, as our monthly expenditure for Staff salary, Incentives to Volunteers, Administration and Routine office maintenance comes to around Rs.1.5 lakhs.
